Church and Community Pastoral News (July)

Hi Everyone,

I cannot believe I am writing a magazine letter for July and August. Some days it has felt like we are in October or November!

First of all a big thank you to everyone who came to our Garden Party on June 15th and to those who helped in any way. We did see lots of rain, but the Great British resolve won and we were under canvass. Those who came will have seen that Rob and I enjoy gardening, we are not experts and still have much to learn. It has taken us 7 years to understand what works in our shady, tree surrounded garden. We find gardening very relaxing, in fact like many of you we find God’s creation in general relaxing and awe inspiring.

A Prayer to share with you as you enjoy God’s Creation this Summer:

‘Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for allowing us to benefit from the beauty of all that Your hand has created. Thank You for our seas, forests, and skies. Thank You for all the beautiful and fragrant plants, and for the power and wonder of every animal. Thank You for the seasons and the rains that keep our earth reproducing. We will wake the dawn with our song. O Lord, our Lord, Your majestic Name fills the earth! Your glory is higher than the heavens. When we look at the night sky and see the work of Your fingers, the moon and the stars you set in place; what are mortals that You should think about them, human beings that You should care for them? The highest heavens and the earth and everything in it all belong to You. We are blessed to be the recipients of all the beauty that surrounds us and testifies of Your awesome glory. We will sing to You as long as we live. We will praise You until our last breath! May all our thoughts be pleasing to You, for we rejoice in You, our Father.’ AMEN.

Cameo continues through the Summer, so will take place on July 28th and August 25th.

Tuesday Lunches will continue until 6th August and then will have a short break until September. Please speak to me if you feel you can help with these or if you know anyone who might enjoy coming for a lovely 2 course hot meal.

An advance notice that our Harvest Festival this year is on 6th October. We will be supporting ‘All We Can’ again this year. The theme is ‘Deepen Your Roots’, where they are looking at how potatoes are

transforming peoples lives in Ethiopia. This will be a 10am ‘All Together’ service followed by a shared lunch and an opportunity to donate to All We Can.

I am working with Heather Lawrence to organise a 2 course meal at Giovanni’s on October 1st, with Paul Jones and Fiona Hendley sharing with us in story and song. More details can be found later in the magazine and tickets will be available soon. I encourage you to come to this and bring a friend, family member or neighbour who may not normally come along to Church, it will be a great evening.

If you are having a Summer Break, I hope you will feel relaxed and refreshed, physically and spiritually, as you enjoy the beauty of God’s Creation.
