“My Soldier Boy”, by Elizabeth Mason.

“Remember me”, my true love wrote,
Just hours before he closed his eyes.
How precious is this final note.
I sit and read, then kneel and cry.

“Put poppies on my grave” he said,
My darling, handsome soldier boy.
“For in my dreams you’re dressed in red,
My bonnie girl, my love, my joy”.

Now here I stand before his cross.
His name, his age, the day he died.
I feel his pain, I grieve his loss.
My heart explodes with deepening pride.

How cruel man can be to man.
Such evil greed just begs belief.
Is this a part of God’s great plan ?
When will this futile battle cease ?

Thanks for visiting!
