The Hope Centres provide a space for our trained befrienders to develop deeper relationships with people who have received hampers of food from us. They provide an opportunity to address some of the difficult things which may have been going on in their lives, as well as a place to meet new friends. Each centre offers breakfast and lunch (lunch only at Knutsford), a ‘Thought for the Day’, discussion groups, Job Clubs, IT courses and a craft table. We also run, when required, Money Management courses, cookery and “freedom from dependencies” courses from the Hope Centres.
We are aware of the isolation felt by people living in poverty and our priority is to introduce them into a caring community, often a local church, that will continue to provide friendship and support.
Throughout the year we receive regular referrals to provide food hampers for people who do not have sufficient food. In order to ensure we have enough supplies we work with local communities and churches collecting non-perishable food items that enable us to provide a central foodbank in the area.
Through the food bank we provide food for 3-5 days to people and families in crisis who are referred to us by front line care workers and professionals from many different agencies.
Food hampers are then given, without prejudice, to men, women and children. Adults are invited to our Hope Centres where we can support them further, and if necessary, signpost people to agencies able to solve longer-term problems.
If you are in need of an emergency food hamper, please ask your social worker, doctor, children’s centre, housing association or other health/social care provider to make a referral on your behalf.
