FROM Carol Cotton (Church and Community Pastoral Worker) — April

Hi Everyone,

As I write this letter to you I am aware that we are living in unique and strange times. A number of people are already self-isolating for health- or age-related reasons, which is understandable. As I write, decisions have just been made to stop all of our groups meeting at KMC and not to have Sunday Worship through the Circuit where we meet together.

Rob is busy looking at other ways for us to worship, he will say more about this in his letter. Pastorally, for Pastoral Visitors and Home Group Leaders who care for their members, we are asking for them to keep in touch by telephone and/or e-mail : to care for one another and support each other from more of a distance.

The other thing we are busily putting into place and hopefully will be in place by the time you read this, is a different pastoral system.
So, for those over the age of 70 or those with an illness which means they have to self-isolate, for both KMC members and Tuesday lunch members, we are creating a “telephone buddy” system. A phone buddy will be allocated 4 or 5 people who they will ring weekly (minimum), partly to keep in touch but also to check if they need any shopping.
If they need a small shop, the buddy will make a list, pass it to me and I have a small team of people who have volunteered to be shoppers. They will call the person, tell them the cost of the shop, they will leave the shopping on the doorstep and pick up an envelope with the money in. I suspect the majority of people will have family support, but we will have some people who will need more help.

Eve James had an idea that, while we have to self isolate, perhaps it would be a good time to grow vegetables, because when this is all over we may experience some food shortages, therefore it would be really good if we had lots of fresh produce to share. So let’s support, care for, love and pray for one another throughout the next weeks and months, and let’s look for opportunities to share God’s love and spend time with Him ourselves.

Let’s stay positive.

Here is a Bible Reading : ‘This is how love is made complete among us so that we will have confidence on the day of judgment: In this world we are like Jesus. There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love.’ 1 John 4:17-18 .

Carol.
