Women's Network of the Methodist Church
Manchester and Stockport District
The Women's Network is a movement, not an organisation. There is no membership fee and you do not need to "join"> However, you can subscribe to Magnet magazine, which is its main resource and includes up-to-date information on its "Networking Page".
The Women's Network of the Methodist Church aims to encourage, enable and equip women to participate fully in the life of the church and in society.
It seeks to:
- Raise awareness of, campaign for and support action on social justice issues.
- Develop relationships with women throughout the world (locally, nationally and internationally) for shared encouragement, equipping and enabling the full potential of all.
- Provide opportunities for creative spiritual development.
- Provide training and support for women to lead and to nurture the full use of all their gifts.
- Raise funds to deliver these purposes.
It does this through training, conferences and events, campaigns and provision of information.
"The Women's Network has always been a visionary movement, outward-looking, seeking to broaden the horizons of the Church and bring to ifs attention those issues that affect the quality of life, such as prostitution and trafficking, racism and gender injustices." Quote from Margaret Sawyer in the Methodist Recorder in February 200B.
At the moment, the Women's Network is going through a consultation process with the Methodist Church that may mean it will become a separate charitable organisation independent of the Connexional Team but still part of the Methodist Church.
Probably the most well known activity of Network in Knutsford is the Women's World Day of Prayer in March. This is run by Women's Network in towns and cities all over the world. This year the theme of the service was prepared by Christian women in Guyana on the theme of -God's Wisdom Provides New Understanding", and, in 2009, Papua New Guinea are using the theme, -In Christ There Are Many Members, But One Body".
I hope as many women as possible will attend next year's service - the date will be advertised in Open Doors together with any details of events in this area.
